- Close and drain shut off valves leading outdoors
- Disconnect, drain and store your garden hose
- Protect pipes from freezing – locate all pipes that are exposed in an unheated area of your home or in exterior walls that you can access and wrap them in a blanket foam (foam roll with a slip opening available at your local hardware store)
- Avoid clogged drains – do not pour cooking grease and oils down them
Run water from every valve in your house at regular intervals throughout the winter – this will prevent freezing- Check that snow is not restricting your water drainage
